EPA/USDA Partnership to Support Community-based Education

Study report, and pamphlet series

The US Environmental Protection Agency/USDA Cooperative Extension Partnerships project, initiated by Elaine, supported a three-year effort to investigate ways to strengthen relationships in environmental management and education between the two agencies. The agencies share the goal of promoting environmental management via local decision making and voluntary compliance with regulations. The Study methodology and results are reported in A Discussion Paper. A Fact Sheet series, numbers 1 – 9 (listed below), identifies specific findings to aid understanding of community-based education and potential opportunities for collaboration by professionals in each agency. The context of the study, as a component of education about the environment, is described by Andrews et al in New Tools for Environmental Protection: Education, Information, and Voluntary Measures, published by the National Academy Press.
